Last Saturday, we hosted our Kids Festival Party. The children met Stitch, played games, danced, enjoyed hotdogs, pop-corn and sweets (the party essentials, right?!) and had their faces painted and hair braided. I feel exhausted just typing that!
Although a lot of our events are for women, planning children’s and family events is also the core of what we do. Since we started in July of last year, we’ve hosted a lot of things for little ones: children’s activity days, family fun days, farm visits, Halloween parties, Christmas markets and parties, picnics, Disney specials, Mother’s Day walks… just to name a few. The truth is, we just love hosting these things for you.
Melissa, our incredible Head Of Events (no, honestly, nobody puts together a party or an event like Melissa) had some things to say about these events and why they’re important: “When we first started The Girls Club, I noticed the gap in mental health help for mums. Being a mum myself, I knew the struggles that I personally faced when I became a mum. I also knew that bridging the gap was needed.
The reasons behind our children’s club (every Thursday at Thrive) and our children’s events are to bring families and mums together, in a safe place where children can play, but also mums can come together and connect, chat, and form friendships. Our aim is to create environments where mums feel comfortable to open up about their mental health and knowing they are surrounded by support.”
Approximately one in four women experience issues with their mental health during pregnancy and up to a year after birth, with post-natal depression affecting an estimated 10-15% of new mums.
Wider parenting research has highlighted that 7 out of 10 mothers in the UK feel burned out and overloaded, with nearly half reporting that their mental health is suffering. Personally, becoming a mum was at times the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do, and the most isolating.
Our children’s events are there to help you find connections with other women just like you; the one’s with their hands full, the ones needing support, the ones needing friendship. You don’t have to experience motherhood alone. Whether you’re able to come to an event, or want to join the Whatsapp chat for mums, we look forward to getting to know you.
Mums truly do make the world go round. Here’s to you, and all you do. I’m so glad we’ve got each other.
With love,
Allie x
